Possible Nissan Leaf-based EV Sports Car

The the new 2011 Nissan Leaf EV is so popular, the car is already sold out, even before its supposed to hit dealership lots later this year. Now, Nissan is contemplating adding an all electric, Leaf-type two door sports car to their line up.

Inside Line is reporting an anonomous source at Nissan has leaked to them about upcoming EV sports car concepts, with LEAF EV technology. They even christen the car, as potentially the "370Z-E."

Nissan May Extend EV Production

The all new Nissan LEAF hasn't even hit Nissan dealership lots yet, and the car is already sold out of its 2011 model year. Due to the widely successful pre-order sales, Nissan is thinking about expanding its electric vehicle line up.

This comes after the auto maker announced it had the largest amount of "conquest sales" for the LEAF. A "conquest sale" is when one auto maker sways buyers away from the competition, getting them onto their dealership lots to purchase their cars instead; like the yet to be released LEAF EV.

Nissan Leaf Reported Already Sold Out in US

The 2011 Nissan LEAF isn't even actually on sale yet within the United States - and the vehicle is already sold out.

More than 19,000 customers (13,000 in the US and 6,000 in Japan) have reserved a new Nissan LEAF. Considering that Nissan can only produce 12,000 vehicles by March 2011, the Nissan LEAF is sold out for 2010.

The 2011 Nissan LEAF features an electric motor with 107 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Power is provided by laminated lithium-ion batteries, which allow the LEAF to travel approximately 99 miles on a single charge. Once…
